Water Softener Installation in Tolleson, AZ

Most older Tolleson homes were built without a softener loop. We add one, install a properly sized softener, and help your fixtures and water heater last longer.

  • Loop installation
  • Softener repair
  • RO systems

Adding a Softener to an Older Home

Tolleson’s older homes were built long before softener loops were common. That just means one extra step: we tap into the main water line where it enters the house, add a bypass valve and run a drain line for the softener.

We plan the tie-in so outdoor hose bibs stay on hard water, and put the softener where it is easy to add salt. Once the loop is in, the softener connects cleanly.

What Hard Water Does in Older Homes

In older Tolleson homes, hard water adds to wear that is already there. Faucets crust over, showerheads clog, toilet parts fail, and water heaters fill with sediment.

A softener stops new scale from forming. It will not undo existing corrosion in old galvanized pipe, though. If your home has low pressure or rusty water from galvanized lines, repiping may need to come first. See repiping in Tolleson.

Hard Water on Older Fixtures

In older Tolleson homes, you can often see years of hard water history on the fixtures: crusty aerators, showerheads with half their holes clogged, stiff faucet handles and toilets that run. Some of that can be cleaned or repaired. Some of it means replacing the fixture.

Once a softener is in place, new fixtures and parts last much longer. If you are planning to update faucets or toilets, installing a softener first protects the new fixtures from day one.

Salt Placement and Access

In older homes where we add a new softener loop, we think about where you will be carrying salt bags. A spot near the garage door or carport, rather than a back corner, makes monthly salt refills much easier.

Choosing Salt

Most softeners in Tolleson homes use regular softener salt pellets. Higher-purity pellets leave less residue in the brine tank. Potassium chloride is an alternative for households that want to reduce sodium, though it costs more and some systems need to be adjusted for it. We will set up the softener for whichever you choose.

Tolleson Softener FAQs

Does my Tolleson home need a softener loop?

Most older homes do not have one. We can add it.

Will a softener fix low water pressure?

No. Low pressure in older homes is usually from corroded pipe or a failing regulator.

Where should the softener go?

Near where the main line enters the house, somewhere easy to add salt.

Can I get filtered drinking water in an older Tolleson home?

Yes. An under-sink reverse osmosis system works in any kitchen with room under the sink.
