A Small Town With Older Homes
Tolleson is small, about six square miles, and it has been around since the 1920s. The town is surrounded by warehouses and distribution centers along I-10 today, but the residential neighborhoods have a lot of older homes, along with some newer ones nearby.
Older homes mean older plumbing. We commonly find original drain lines that have scaled up and narrowed, galvanized or aging copper supply lines, water heaters without proper expansion tanks or relief piping, and sewer laterals that have seen decades of use.
Alex & Bros Plumbing is a family-owned company from Peoria that serves Tolleson homeowners. We do the job right, explain what we find, and give you the price upfront.

Old Pipes, New Problems
Low water pressure
If your pressure has slowly faded, especially at showers, galvanized pipe is a common culprit. The inside of the pipe corrodes and closes up over time. The fix is replacing the affected lines. Our Tolleson repiping page has more.
Stuck shutoff valves
Older shutoff valves under sinks and toilets often seize or leak when finally turned. Replacing them is quick, and it means you can actually shut off water when you need to.
Repeat drain clogs
Older drain pipes develop rough interiors that catch debris. Drain cleaning, sometimes with hydro jetting, gets them flowing again.
Sewer backups
Aging sewer laterals can crack or let roots in. Sewer line repair fixes the source.

Water Heater Safety in Older Homes
In older Tolleson homes, it is common to find water heaters that were installed years ago without the safety features current code requires. That can include a relief valve drain line that goes nowhere, no expansion tank, or improper venting on a gas unit.
When we repair or replace a water heater, we bring the installation up to code. That means a properly piped relief valve, an expansion tank where needed, correct venting on gas units, and a drain pan where the location calls for one. It is not about upselling. It is about making sure the heater cannot hurt anyone. See our Tolleson water heater page.

What We Check on Every Tolleson Call
When we come out for one problem in an older home, we keep an eye out for others. Not to sell you anything, but so you know what is going on in your house.
- Main shutoff. Does it work? If not, that is a problem waiting for an emergency.
- Water heater. Age, relief valve, venting and signs of leaking.
- Supply lines and angle stops. Old rubber lines and seized valves are common.
- Visible pipe. Is it galvanized, copper, or something else? Any corrosion?
- Drains. Are they slow? Any signs of backups?
We tell you what we see and let you decide what to do about it. If nothing needs attention, we will tell you that too.
Why a Local, Owner-Run Company Matters
Big plumbing companies often pay technicians on commission, which pushes them to sell. Alex owns the company, so there is no commission to chase. The goal is to fix your problem at a fair price so you call again next time.
What Tolleson Homeowners Say
Wow! I have owned several homes and have use trades extensively. Alex was the best experience I have had across the board, communications, speed, expertise.
I had a water main leak on a holiday weekend. Contacted Alex and he arrived within an hour. The pipe was deep and a lot of dirt and rocks had to be removed. Alex carefully removed the ornamental rocks, used a tarp to contain the dirt and when finished the yard looked like new.
Thank you Alex

Sewer Laterals in Older Tolleson Neighborhoods
The sewer line from an older Tolleson home to the city main has often been in the ground for fifty years or more. Older laterals were typically clay or cast iron, and both have weak points: clay at every joint, cast iron along the bottom where it corrodes.
If your main line backs up more than once, or you smell sewage in the yard, the lateral may be cracked, sagging, or full of roots. We clear the line first so the house is usable, then check what caused the backup. If a section needs replacing, we dig only where the damage is. Replacement pipe is PVC, which does not rust and has tight, glued joints that roots cannot get through.
Tolleson Plumbing FAQs
Do you serve all of Tolleson?
Yes, the entire city and surrounding neighborhoods with Tolleson addresses.
How do I know if I have galvanized pipe?
Look at the pipe near your water heater or main shutoff. Galvanized pipe is gray metal with threaded fittings. Copper is reddish-brown. If you are not sure, we can check.
Can you fix low water pressure in an older home?
Often, yes. It may be a failing pressure regulator, a clogged aerator, or corroded galvanized pipe. We find the cause first.
