Galvanized Pipe in Older Phoenix Homes
West Phoenix neighborhoods built in the 1950s and 1960s, including much of Maryvale, were commonly plumbed with galvanized steel water pipe. It was standard at the time, but it has a limited life. The zinc coating wears away, the steel rusts from the inside, and the pipe slowly closes up.
The symptoms are familiar: weak pressure at showers and faucets, rusty water first thing in the morning, and leaks at threaded joints inside walls. Patching galvanized pipe tends to cause new leaks nearby, since disturbing old pipe can crack it.
If your Phoenix home has galvanized pipe and is showing these signs, a repipe is usually the smartest investment.
Repiping Newer Phoenix Homes
Homes from the 1970s through the 1990s in north Phoenix usually have copper. Copper holds up longer, but under a slab, pinhole leaks become common after thirty or forty years. If you have had multiple slab leaks, rerouting the copper through the attic or walls, or repiping the house, ends the cycle.
We also replace water service lines from the meter to the house and install new main shutoffs and pressure regulators.
The Repipe Process
- Assess and plan. We look at the existing pipe and plan the new route.
- Permit if needed. Some repipes in Phoenix require a permit. We will let you know.
- Protect the home. Covers on floors and furniture.
- Run new lines. Through the attic and walls with small, targeted openings.
- New shutoffs. At every fixture.
- Test and walk through. Pressure test before closing, then show you everything.

Galvanized Service Lines in Phoenix
In older Phoenix homes, it is not just the pipes inside the house that are galvanized. The service line from the meter to the house often is too. A home can be fully repiped inside and still have low pressure if the service line is choked with rust.
When we plan a Phoenix repipe, we look at the service line as well. If it is galvanized or leaking, replacing it at the same time means you get the full benefit of the new plumbing. We install a new main shutoff at the house and, where needed, a pressure reducing valve.
The city owns the meter and the line on the street side. If we find a problem there, we will tell you so you can contact the city.
Reviews From Homeowners Near Phoenix
Wow! I have owned several homes and have use trades extensively. Alex was the best experience I have had across the board, communications, speed, expertise.
I had a water main leak on a holiday weekend. Contacted Alex and he arrived within an hour. The pipe was deep and a lot of dirt and rocks had to be removed. Alex carefully removed the ornamental rocks, used a tarp to contain the dirt and when finished the yard looked like new.
Thank you Alex

Alex helped me put my dream kitchen to life! I needed to move my sink to a perpendicular wall, which meant moving the drain and water lines. He communicated well throughout the project, even when issues came up. I would definitely hire him for any plumbing repairs in the future!

Phoenix Repiping FAQs
Do I need a permit to repipe my Phoenix home?
Some repipes require one. We will tell you what applies to your project.
What pipe do you use for repipes?
Usually PEX, which is flexible and durable. Copper is available if you prefer.
Will repiping fix my rusty water?
If galvanized pipe is the cause, yes.
Can you repipe a home with a slab foundation?
Yes. We run new lines through the attic and walls, not under the slab.
