Drain Cleaning in Phoenix, AZ
Older Phoenix drains fight roots, rust and decades of buildup. Newer ones fight grease and wipes. We clear both, and tell you if the clog is a sign of something bigger.

Phoenix Drains Come in Every Age
We serve west and north Phoenix, and the drain lines there range from 1950s cast iron and clay to modern ABS. Each one fails in its own way.
Older homes, like many in Maryvale and other west Phoenix neighborhoods built in the 1950s and 1960s, often have cast iron drains under the slab and clay or cast iron sewer laterals in the yard. Roots find the joints in clay pipe, and cast iron scales up inside. Main line backups are common.
Newer homes further north have ABS drains, and clogs there are mostly about what goes down the pipe: grease, wipes and hair.
We ask a few questions, figure out which it is, and clear it with the right tool.

Roots in Phoenix Sewer Lines
Phoenix neighborhoods with mature trees, like the older parts of west Phoenix, see a lot of root intrusion. Roots grow into small gaps at pipe joints, then spread into a mat that catches waste.
Clearing roots with a cutting head opens the line. In many cases, it buys a year or more. Hydro jetting can clean the pipe walls more thoroughly. But roots grow back to the same gap. If you are clearing roots every year, repairing that section of pipe is often the better investment. Our Phoenix sewer line repair page explains the options.

Monsoon Season and Slow Drains
During monsoon storms, heavy rain can push extra water into damaged sewer lines through cracks and bad joints. A line that is already partly blocked by roots or buildup can back up during or after a storm.
If you notice drains getting slower in summer, or gurgling during rain, get the line checked before a backup happens. Clearing debris from exterior cleanouts and making sure caps are secure also helps. For our full approach to drain cleaning, see our Peoria drain cleaning page.

Cast Iron Under Older Phoenix Slabs
In Phoenix homes built before the 1970s, the drain lines under the slab are usually cast iron. Cast iron can last a long time, but it corrodes from the inside along the bottom, where water and waste sit. After fifty or sixty years, that bottom can thin out and crack.
When we clear a drain in an older Phoenix home, we pay attention to what comes back on the cable. Rust flakes and pieces of pipe are a sign the line is breaking down. A cable that drops suddenly can mean a gap or collapse. If we see those signs, we will tell you, and explain whether it can be monitored or should be repaired.
Kitchen Lines in Every Era
In a Phoenix home from 1955 or one from 2005, the kitchen line is still the drain most likely to clog. Grease, starches and coffee grounds stick in the horizontal pipe behind the sink. In older homes with rough cast iron, the buildup happens faster. Hydro jetting removes that coating from the pipe walls and keeps the line clear much longer than a quick snake.

Sandra “Sandy” Chavez
Alex arrived at our house on short notice. He did a great job and explained the cause (which I always appreciate) of the clogs, so I can hopefully prevent in future. Prompt and courteous. I recommend him and his brother.

Phoenix Drain Cleaning FAQs
How do I know if roots are in my Phoenix sewer line?
Repeated main line backups, gurgling toilets, and slow drains throughout the house, especially in older homes with nearby trees, point to roots.
Is hydro jetting better than snaking in Phoenix?
For roots and heavy grease, jetting cleans the full pipe wall. For simple clogs, a cable machine works fine. We choose based on what the line needs.
