Sun City repiping

Repiping in Sun City, AZ

If your Sun City home still has original galvanized or aging copper pipe, a repipe can restore water pressure and end the leaks for good. We do it carefully, with minimal disruption.

  • Galvanized replacement
  • Attic routing
  • Respectful, tidy work

Why Sun City Homes Are Repiped

Sun City homes built in the 1960s and 1970s often came with galvanized steel water lines, copper lines under the slab, or a mix of both. Many have already been repiped. If yours has not, the original pipe is well past its expected life.

Galvanized pipe corrodes inside until water pressure drops to a trickle and rusty water comes out after the house sits. Copper under the slab develops pinhole leaks. Both get worse, not better.

A repipe replaces the supply lines with new pipe, typically run through the attic and down interior walls instead of under the slab. It is a bigger project, but it ends the cycle of leaks, restores pressure and gives you new shutoff valves at every fixture.

How We Repipe a Sun City Home

Most Sun City homes are single story, which works in favor of an attic-routed repipe. Lines run across the attic and drop down into walls right where each fixture is, which keeps the number of wall openings small.

  • We plan the route with you before starting
  • We protect floors, furniture and belongings
  • We open walls only where lines drop to fixtures
  • New shutoff valves at every sink, toilet and appliance
  • Pressure test before anything is closed up
  • Water back on most evenings

We know many Sun City residents prefer a tidy, respectful crew and clear communication. That is how we work.

Main Line and Shutoff Replacement

Older Sun City homes often have main shutoff valves that have not been turned in years and may not close when you need them. Replacing the main shutoff is a quick job and often part of a repipe. We can also replace the water service line from the meter if it is galvanized or leaking.

For more on repiping materials and process, see our main Peoria repiping page. If you are dealing with a single leak right now, see our Sun City leak detection page.

Replacing the Service Line in Older Sun City Homes

The water service line runs underground from the meter to your house. In older Sun City homes, it may be galvanized steel or older copper that has been buried for fifty years or more. As it corrodes, it can restrict flow to the whole house and eventually leak underground.

Signs your service line may be failing:

  • Low pressure at every fixture, including outdoor hose bibs
  • A soggy spot or sinking gravel between the meter and the house
  • The meter moves after you close the main shutoff at the house

When we repipe a Sun City home, we look at the service line too. Replacing it at the same time, with a new main shutoff at the house, means the whole system is new from the meter in.

I was referred to Alex because the scope of work was beyond what my usual plumber could handle, and I couldn’t be happier with the recommendation.

Sun City Repiping FAQs

How do I know if my Sun City home has galvanized pipe?

Look at the pipe near the water heater or main shutoff. Galvanized is gray metal with threaded fittings. We can confirm.

Will a repipe improve my water pressure?

If galvanized pipe is the cause of low pressure, yes, often dramatically.

Can I stay in my home during a repipe?

Most people do. We plan the work so water is back on most evenings.

Who patches the drywall openings?

Ask us about patching when we plan the job. We will explain exactly what openings to expect.
