Hair, Scale and Bathroom Sinks

Bathroom sinks are the most common drain call we get in Sun City West. The pattern is almost always the same: hair and soap scum collect on the pop-up stopper and in the trap, and our hard water adds a layer of mineral scale that makes the buildup stick.

Often the fix is just pulling the stopper, cleaning it and clearing the trap. Sometimes the clog is further into the wall and needs a small cable. Older pop-up assemblies can also leak once disturbed, and we replace them on the spot if needed.

Kitchen Lines in Smaller Households

Kitchens in one- or two-person households see less water overall, so grease and food scraps have less flow pushing them down the line. A kitchen sink that drains a little slower each year is usually a coating building up in the horizontal pipe behind the wall. Clearing it before it closes off completely is easier and cheaper than waiting for a full clog.

If your kitchen sink is shared with a dishwasher, a partly clogged line can also make the dishwasher back up into the sink. That is a good early warning sign.
